Wrist Flexor Stretch for Tennis

A forearm stretch for the wrist flexors used in tennis grip and racquet control.

How to Perform the Stretch

Raise one straight arm to shoulder height with the palm turned outward and wrist extended. Take the fingers with the other hand and gently draw them toward the shoulder. Repeat with the other arm.

Technique Cue

Pull on the fingers as described in the book, rather than pressing on the palm.

Targeted Muscles and Timing

Target: Wrist and finger flexors. The tennis book recommends a hold of about 45 seconds. Perform both sides where applicable and avoid bouncing.

Book Technique and Related Exercises

With the arm extended, draw the fingers back toward the shoulder to stretch the wrist flexors. The book specifically distinguishes pulling at the fingers from pulling at the palm.
