Exercise Video

The filmed hold is abbreviated; follow the book’s full hold time and repeat on the other side.

How to Perform the Stretch

Raise one arm to shoulder height and bring it across the chest. Place the opposite arm beneath it, bend that elbow, and guide the upper arm gently closer to the body. Keep the chest lifted and head level before switching sides.

Technique Cue

Pull the upper arm rather than wrenching at the elbow; keep the shoulders and pelvis square.

Targeted Muscles and Timing

Target: Posterior deltoid. The tennis book recommends a hold of about 45 seconds. Perform both sides where applicable and avoid bouncing.
