Stand with the feet close together and the bar’s weighted end resting on the floor ahead.
Step sideways to a shoulder-width stance, squat while drawing the bar toward the shoulder, then extend the hips and knees as the bar presses forward. Repeat the sequence on the other side.
Modified demonstration: the footage uses a one-hand, floor-anchored bar. The book specifies both hands on the barbell and alternating sideways steps.
