Seated V-Stance Stretch for Tennis

Static Stretching · Book exercise 5.37

A seated hamstring and trunk stretch that uses a wide V position to reach each side and the center.

Exercise Video

The video shows the setup and release with an abbreviated hold. Follow the book’s hold duration and the technique notes below.

How to Perform the Stretch

Sit on a mat, straighten both knees, and spread the legs into a comfortable V. Lean from the hips and reach toward one foot, then the other, and finally down the middle. Holding the toes can add a calf stretch when your range allows it.

Technique Cue

Keep the knees extended without forcing a rounded neck. Work toward the middle as well as both feet.

Targeted Muscles and Timing

Target: Hamstrings, gastrocnemius and soleus. The tennis book recommends holding the stretch for about 45 seconds. Perform both sides where applicable, moving into a comfortable range without bouncing.
