Physio Ball Leg Curl (III): Single Leg

Functional training exercise 6.100 from Advanced Concepts of Strength & Conditioning for Tennis. Watch the demonstration, then repeat the exercise with the opposite leg.

Exercise demonstration

Demonstration note: The video shows the single-leg curl on one side. Switch legs to complete the book’s progression.

Starting position

Lie face up on a mat with one heel centered on the physio ball and the other leg off the ball. Extend the arms out to the sides and keep the head on the mat.

How to perform the exercise

Raise the hips into a neutral pelvic position. Keep the free leg extended off the ball while bending the supporting knee to roll the ball toward the body. Maintain the elevated hips as you extend that knee and roll the ball away. Repeat, then switch legs.

Coaching points

Keep the pelvis level and elevated, control the ball’s path, and avoid lifting the head from the mat. The book describes the free leg parallel to the working leg; the footage raises it higher at points, so use the written setup as the technique reference.

Equipment: Physio ball and floor mat
Book difficulty level: 3 of 5
